Curriculum planning is a complex process where faculty define intended learning outcomes, assessments, content and pedagogic requirements necessary for student success across an entire curriculum. The course outline is the most significant curriculum document for faculty and students. It communicates to the faculty and students the learning expectations (course learning outcomes), the assessment opportunities (evaluation criteria), and the intended learning activities and assessments (learning plan).
Quality curriculum begins with clear and measurable course learning outcomes (CLOs), a variety in the types of evaluations, a strong relationship between the learning expectations (CLOs) and the evaluations, and course content and learning activities to support the students to successfully meet the CLOs and complete the evaluations.
