Deleting the Total Column

By default in Blackboard, the “Total” column is set as the External Grade. You cannot delete the total column until you change the external grade setting to the weighted total column.  Essentially, you need to move the green checkmark from “total” to “weighted total” before you can delete the Total column.

What is the External Grade?  You will notice a green checkmark beside the “Total” column.

Changing the External Grade:

To change the external grade to the weighted total column, click on the drop-down menu that appears when you hover over “Weighted total”.  A list of options will then be displayed – click “Set as External Grade”.

Now that the “weighted total” has been set as the external grade, you can delete the total column.  To delete the total column, scroll over “total” and click on the drop-down arrow that appears.  A list of options will then be displayed – click “delete column”.

A warning message will appear asking for confirmation to proceed with the delete – click OK.
