Announcements are a great way to connect with your students or remind them about assignments, due dates, guest speakers or notify of room changes or class cancellations. They can also be used to highlight new content in your course, or to communicate other date/time-specific information. When you create an announcement, you can specify when and for how long it will be displayed. You can make some messages permanent and others restricted by date. You may also choose to have an email of the announcement sent immediately to your students.
To create an announcement follow the steps below;
Step 1. Click on the course announcement link in the course menu.
Step 2. On the announcement page, click create announcement on the action bar.
The screen will change and the create announcement options will appear.
Step 3. Type in the Subject (this will become the title of the announcement on the Announcements page students see).
Step 4. Type in the Message and format the text using the content editor functions.
Step 5. In the Web Announcement Options section, select Not Date Restricted—visible until manually removed, or Date Restricted—visible only within selected dates and times.
Step 6. If Date Restricted, select the Display After and Display Until check boxes and type the dates and times. Optionally, use the pop-up Date Selection Calendar and Time Selection Menu to select dates and times.
Step 7. Select Send a copy of this announcement immediately, check box if you want to send students an email containing the announcement. The email is sent to all students even if they chose not to receive announcement notifications through email.
Note: you will not be able to send a copy of the announcement if you have added any date restrictions
Step 8. If the announcement contains information about a specific section of your Blackboard course site, you may use the Course Link to include the link to that content area of your course. Note: the link will not work in the email that users would receive.
Step 9. Click Submit.
