Respondus 4.0 is a program that allows you to upload paper-based tests into Blackboard. To get started you will need to download the program. Please follow the instructions below.

Use the links below to download the Respondus installation program. Note: Respondus 4.0 runs on Windows so you must be on a Windows machine to download (Macs will not work)

Formatting Your Word Document Test for Respondus 4.0

How to Import Questions from Word into Blackboard using Respondus 4.0

Once you have downloaded the Respondus 4.0 software to your computer and set up the application you can retrieve and print tests from your Blackboard course.

Step 1. Open Respondus and click on the Retrieval and Reports tab at the top of the screen

Step 2. Click on the Retrieve Questions tab on the left menu.

Step 3. Click the button in the center labeled Retrieve Questions

Step 4. Select the server from the dropdown menu labeled Blackboard Server and click the button

Step 5. Choose Course to Retrieve from, select the course you wish to retrieve the questions from.

Step 6. Select the exam, survey or pool you wish to retrieve the questions from.

Step 7. Enter a filename for the Respondus file.

Step 8. When finished click the Next button.

Step 9. A screen similar to the one below will appear, detailing the progress of retrieving the questions.  Click the Finish button when the process is completed.

Saving and Printing Questions 

Step 10. After the question retrieval has been completed, click the Preview and Publish tab at the top of the screen.

Step 11. Click the Print Options tab on the left menu.

Step 12. Select Exam to save questions for students. This will produce a word document of the exam that can then be shared with students. 

Step 13. Click the Save to File button to save the test as a Word document on your computer. 

Step 14. Click the Send to Printer button to print the test.

Step 15. Now you need to print questions with the answer key included for grading. 

Step 16. Click the Preview and Publish tab at the top of the screen.

Step 17. Click the Print Options tab on the left menu.

Step 18. Select Exam with Answer Key. This will produce a word document of the exam with the answers which can be used for grading. 

Step 19. Click the Save to File button to save the test as a Word document on your computer. 

Step 20. Click the Send to Printer button to print the test.
